A Journey Through Challenges and Dreams
When we look back on the five years since we moved into the guest house, it’s quite remarkable. We began this journey in November 2020, during a time when the world faced unprecedented challenges due to COVID-19. It was a risk, but we were determined to follow our dream.
The guest house was operational, but it was outdated. To compete with other establishments in the area, we knew we had to make significant improvements. While we were closed to the public, we seized the opportunity to carry out essential maintenance work.
Our Five-Year Plan
We developed a five-year plan aimed at enhancing our competitiveness against larger hotels and modern establishments. The first step was to upgrade the boiler, which appeared to be 30-40 years old. We replaced it with two new boilers and installed a high-pressure megaflow water tank. This new tank has a higher capacity, accommodating the en-suites we planned to build.
Next on our list was renovating the en-suites and one of the shared bathrooms. Shared bathrooms can be a concern for guests, so we prioritized making them as appealing as possible. Our goal was to show everyone that these spaces can provide a pleasant experience.
Room Renovations and Dining Room Facelift
Over the years, all 11 rooms have undergone makeovers, some even receiving updates twice. The dining room has seen a major facelift with new carpets, fresh paint, and a new cabinet. The bar has been completely transformed, creating a more homely atmosphere for our guests.
Two more en-suites were added, and we completely revamped the second shared bathroom. Most of this work was carried out by my father-in-law and me. Without his help, these renovations would have been much more challenging.
Exterior Updates
Even the exterior of the guest house has not escaped our updates. We changed the colour from the old brick red to a more modern grey, giving the guest house a contemporary look. There’s not an inch of this establishment that hasn’t undergone some form of work or redecorating. Remarkably, we accomplished all of this in just four years—one year ahead of schedule!
Future Plans
As we reflect on our journey, we are excited about what the future holds. The transformations we have made are just the beginning. We are committed to continually improving our guest house to provide the best experience possible.
In conclusion, our journey over the past five years has been filled with challenges and triumphs. We are proud of what we have achieved and look forward to welcoming guests to our newly transformed guest house.
